Selfie station is an automatic photobooth situated in front of Reykjavik’s most visited landmark, Hallgrímskirkja. Inhabitants of the city, travelers and guests from around the world can use the photobooth to capture high quality group photos with a great angle on the church. The service is free to use and has shown to be a great gathering tool and provides a lot of fun for groups walking by. If you are lucky enough to capture a great photo, a premium quality option is available on purchase.
Selfie station was formed in 2019 after taking part in a 20 week startup accelerator, Startup Tourism where founders discussed and developed the project with dozens of experienced entrepreneurs and visionaries from Iceland. The location of Selfie Station was chosen in cooperation with city officials after receiving a grant from the Reykjavik downtown committee.
The photobooth was launched on the plaza in front of Hallgrímskirkja in the third week of August 2019 and has been taking hundreds of pictures a day since then. The people on the pictures are unusually happy, it just seems to be something in the Selfie Station air :)
If you haven’t tried it already, we encourage you!
